Blogger: Could Detroit become the next Florida? | Detroit Free Press
Um… no. Take it from someone who left Detroit to move to Florida back when Detroit wasn’t in a fraction of the mess they are in right now.
The homes are affordable because the market is depressed. If/when the Detroit economy ever recovers those homes will rise in price and those retirees on fixed incomes will get hosed on their property taxes.
Oh, and the weather is cold and icy for like five months out of the year. Not exactly a great place to live out your golden years.
Detroit was home and always will be where I say I am from… I am a Detroiter. But a retirement community? One of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read.
