Time for my annual rant against those that feel it is necessary to stir up their annual rant against the Detroit Lions hosting a home game on Thanksgiving day.

Screw you.

Whew.  That was easy.

Its our tradition.  Don’t like it?  Pop in a DVD.  For God’s sake, maybe talk with your family while gathered around the table.  Take the young ones outside and throw the old football around or trick them into raking some leaves.

Its our idea.  Its our tradition.  Football on Thanksgiving.  It means infinitely more to Detroit than to you.  Its our day.

Shut up, watch the game for what it is, drink your wine and eat your food.  Yes, we will likely lose.  Yes, the game probably won’t be that close.  But, seriously, shouldn’t you be catching up with Aunt Susan instead of having your head stuck into the TV for every play of the early game?

At the end of the day, while you try to digest your third serving of stuffing, there will be a team of players, beaten and bruised, that understand just what this game means to a city that has been all but abandoned by its own country.

Oh, and if I find out that you whined about the Detroit Lions game being “not competitive” only to have you drive home from Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s house in a BMW…

You are simply un-American.

Tradition.  It isn’t always pretty.  But it is always about who we are.  Play on Detroit.  We’ll get ‘em next year.

I’m normally a big fan of Apple and their premium computer equipment. The quality and attention to detail is well worth it to me whenever I’m accused of paying the “Apple Tax” for my computers, phones, software, MP3 players, and the like.

But Apple’s new “Magic Mouse” has me rethinking that loyalty.

It’s a slick piece of technology. In a nutshell, Apple has managed to take their stubbornly supported one-button mouse philosophy and fuse it together with their multiple-gesture trackpad technology and create what might just be the perfect wireless mouse.

For just $69 you can have Apple’s techno pointer with its virtual right clicks, virtual scroll wheel, and multi-touch surface.

It is cool. It worked well in the 5 minutes I had to demo it. It is also hardly necessary.

It is a $69 party trick or, at best, a luxury version of a 25 year old idea.

I’ll happily take one. Doubt I’ll buy one though.
